Every question in this section was written for this site. None is copied from a textbook, a course manual or another prep site. Each is written to the topics of the official exam, keyed to one defensible answer, and explained with the rule and its source (the statute, regulation, policy form or agency page it comes from), so you can check it yourself. Rules that changed recently are tested as they stand in 2026.
Expect the insurance-exam format: a question lists statements I, II, III and IV, and the answers are combinations such as “I and III only”. Read each statement on its own first, cross out the false ones, and only then look at the choices. 43 questions in this bank use it.
How the license works
- Who needs the license. A person, firm or corporation that sells or negotiates title insurance as an agent of a title insurer needs a New York title insurance agent license. NY Ins. Law 2101(y), 2139
- Before the exam. Applicants must be at least 18 and complete a prelicensing course of not less than 20 hours, then pass a written examination. A New York attorney in good standing is exempt from the course and the exam. NY Ins. Law 2139(c), (e), (f), (g)
- The license. Individual licenses run for up to 24 months and expire on the licensee’s birthday; the fee is $40 for each year or fraction of a year. Entity licenses expire June 30 of odd-numbered years. NY Ins. Law 2139(d), (i)
- After the license. 15 credit hours of continuing education each two-year licensing period; extra hours do not carry forward. New York attorneys in good standing are exempt. NY Ins. Law 2132
General information, checked against the sources named above in October 2026. It is not legal advice and not a statement of any regulator’s current rules. Fees, hours and exam details change; confirm them with the regulator before you rely on them.
